Paul understood that the Gospel stands on its own and dressing it up is completely pointless. We see evidence of this when he preached several times recorded in the book of Acts. It is also important to note that Paul was indeed a gifted preacher. Upon further study of this chapter, we understand that he wanted to ensure that there was no “fluff” in the message he was delivering. Paul explains that he was humble in his delivery and felt the need to simplify his message. ![]() In the selection of Verses above, we see that Apostle Paul speaking directly to this issue as he addresses the church at Corinth. Although I believe memorizing Scripture is important, it is not necessity when sharing the Good News of Christ with someone. I believe that both of these stems from that idea that we need to be able to speak eloquently about the Bible, and have numerous verses memorized that are applicable to the person, and conversation we find ourselves in. “What if I do not know what to say?” or “What if they ask me a question I cannot answer?” One thing that is certain is that you will, most likely, encounter both of those scenarios. No matter what age group, or maturity level, of believer that this is asked, there is always a common excuse that is used as to why we may not have capitalized on the opportunity. One of the most important duties that we have as Christ-followers is to spread the Gospel message. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
